Skirting runs along the base of an interior wall. "the point where the skirting and the stairs meet." Skirtings or base mouldings: applied where floor and walls meet, forming a visual foundation. Protects walls from kicks, bumps, furniture, etc.
In architecture, a baseboard (also called skirting board, skirting, mop board, floor moulding, or base moulding) is a usually wooden board covering the lowest part of an interior wall. Its purpose is to cover the joint between the wall surface and the floor.
Skirting boards can be screwed, nailed or glued onto the walls. They are usually 5 to 15cm high and can be either stained or painted and they can be either carved with moulding or flat.
